Gerry Lorne McFadyen, 20,
near La Ronge, Saskatchewan
Gerry started working as soon as he graduated from High School. He was accumulating hours so he could take his third year power lineman in Weyburn, Sask.
On September 14, 1991 Gerry was working on the other side of LaRonge putting in some new powerline. The area where they were working had alot of rocks, so the power poles were not dug into the ground. The poles were fastened to the rocks (rock set). Gerry was at the top of the pole all finished his work when something caused the pole to fall. Gerry died on site from his injuries.
The site was tampered with and equipment moved before the R.C.M.P were called. The company recieved a fine and we lost a special son. This is an accident that could have been prevented.
Gerry was the youngest of five children. He loved hockey, swimming and helping out around the farm on his days off. There is a tribute to Gerry in the Maidstone Arena. His jersey and picture are framed and hung inside, and a banner bearing his name and number is hanging above the home bench. There is a scholarship set up at the Maidstone High School which is given each year.
Gerry was kind and caring and always had a smile on his face. We are very proud of all the things he had accomplished in his short life. He is sadly missed by all his family and friends.
