Jared Diduck, 19, near Chetwynd, British Columbia
Jared died on November 9, 2001 while working on an oil rig. The accident happened around 7
p.m., just before a crew change. Jared’s crew was pulling the rig’s mud motor out of the hole and swinging it off the deck of the rig. Something gave way and the one-ton piece of equipment crashed down hitting Jared on the neck. News of Jared’s death stunned the many, many people who knew him as a son, brother, cousin and friend. Over 900 people gathered to celebrate his life. A former teacher described Jared as a very special friend -- loving, spontaneous, rascal, sensitive, very, very social, laughing, quick-witted, sweet. Jared was killed helping to make this province what it is…
I
do not need a special day
To bring you to my mind.
A day I do not think of you
Is impossible to find.
If memories built a stairway
And remembrance made a lane,
I would walk down that long road
To bring you home again.
There is a link death cannot sever,
Love and remembrance last forever.
All my love, I miss you son,
with an ache deep in my heart.
Love Dad, xoxo
