Jim Bakstad, 23, Anahim Lake, British Columbia
Jim died on September 7, 1996, while attempting to land a float plane in a remote lake in northern B.C. in very windy conditions. The plane flipped over as the wing tip hit the water
and Jim hit his head on the dashboard and drowned as the plane sank into the lake. The plane was equipped with a lap belt, but no shoulder harness. Jim shared his love of flying with his father and grandfather. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed tennis, baseball, soccer and golf. Jim was also a “people” person who loved music and had a great sense of
humour. |
