On September 6, 2001, Joel was working as part of a three-man team on a milling machine – a piece of equipment that rips up pavement prior to repaving. At the time of the incident, he was one of two men walking beside the machine, making sure it remained in line. Joel’s foot was caught under the rollers of the large tank-like machine, which caused him to fall and be run over by the machine. |
