Joseph Donald Patterson, 19, Oshawa, Ontario
Joseph was working for a construction company on a summer job. On June 4, 1979, he entered a large bin to clear clogged gravel from the funnel through which gravel dropped onto a conveyor belt and into the plant. Joseph was buried when a front-end loader dropped shale and gravel on top of him while he was inside the bin. The inquest into his death recommended modifications to the bins to enable safe cleaning and that all loading operations cease before a worker enters a bin. Joseph was a devoted and loving son. He had completed successfully his first year at the University of Western Ontario. He is sadly missed and always remembered by his family. |
