Lee Ed Dotschkat, 24, Eagle Plains, Yukon
Lee was an incredible human being. He was a loving and gentle son, husband, father and friend. His incredible personality made him loved by all that met him. Lee had a zeal for life and wanted to make the most of his own life and his family's. He was so excited at the birth of his first child and often sat watching him and marveling in the wonders of God's creations.
Lee decided to return to university and the need for school money is what sent he, his wife Marie and their infant son to the Yukon for the summer. They worked at a hotel and gas station along the Dempster Highway. He loved his job and loved spending the summer in vastness of the Yukon.
He especially loved being able to spend quality time with his son while Marie worked opposite shifts as he did. Lee's willingness to assist anyone in need is what made him work a shift that he normally wouldn't have worked. Never one to turn down a request for help, Lee went out to help one of his co-workers haul water to the self-contained compound.
During one of the last trips back to the hotel with a truck full of tons of water, the brakes failed while traveling downhill. The truck rolled many times causing the cab to fill with shale and gravel and the water tank to burst and fill the cab. The accident caused massive blunt force injuries to Lee and he died instantly.
Lee's death was a tragic death that could have easily been prevented. The brakes were improperly maintained and the driver of the truck was inexperienced and unknowledgeable in the workings of such things. A simple twist of a wrench would have prevented brake failure and the accident may never have happened.
Lord,
Thank You for Your precious gift of memories.
Without them our lives would have no depth... few comforts... and little love.
For memories are those special, very personal things that can bring a smile to our lips when we're sad ... and be like a friend when we're alone or afraid.
Memories are the colors in our lives, the reasons why our hands want to touch
and our hearts want to sing - each a treasured reminder of all the gifts You have given us. |
