Matthew Halpin, 22, Langara Island, British Columbia
Matthew was working as a guide at a fishing lodge. On June 2, 1998, Matthew and another guide went fishing. When their boat capsized, the two men managed to hang on to it for eight hours. When no help arrived, they tried to swim to shore. Matthew was caught in the kelp and drowned; the other guide survived. No one knew they were missing. There were no life jackets on board the boat. Matthew was a third year university student who loved the outdoors. He was bright, well liked and had great potential for his future. |
