Volunteer Quilters
Laurie Swim and the Friends of the Young Workers Memorial Committee thank all the volunteer quilters who participated in the LifeQuilt public awareness project by adopting a young worker's commemorative quilt block.

Laurie's monumental work, Pulling Together, the Builders of the Rideau Canal, is an installation in the main lobby at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Canada. The occasion was the hospital's 150th anniversary.

Pulling Together was a community-based project. Commissioned by the Kingston & District Labour Council and made from thousands of thumbnail-sized pieces of fabric sewn together by a special technique and applied like dabs of color on a pointillist painting, the work was done by many volunteers from the community.

Laurie Swim offers design workshops to quilt, embroidery guilds, sewing groups. She is the author of The Joy of Quilting on CD-ROM, the world's first quilting program on compact disc. She has also written two quilting books: The Joy of Quilting with an Introduction by Alex Colville (1984), and Quilting (1990).

Visit Laurie Swim's website and view her online gallery.
